This milestone marks a significant breakthrough in China's shipbuilding industry, as the vessel fills a critical gap in the production of large-scale dredging equipment. Previously, Chinese shipyards were limited to constructing dredgers with capacities below 10,000 cubic meters, but the “Xin Haihu” changes that narrative entirely. Known as the “New Sea Tiger,” this dredger is currently the largest of its kind being built in China. It is owned by China Hong Kong Dredging Co., Ltd., and represents a major step forward in the country’s ability to design and manufacture advanced dredging vessels. The ship measures 150.7 meters in length, 27 meters in width, and 11 meters in depth, with a designed draft of 8 meters and a dredging water depth of 9.5 meters. It can reach a speed of 15.5 knots and operate at a maximum depth of 42 meters. With a mud capacity of 19,575 tons, the “Xin Haihu” is primarily used for coastal dredging and land reclamation projects. Its capabilities allow it to work in an unlimited navigation area, making it a versatile and powerful asset for marine construction and environmental management. This new vessel not only enhances China’s maritime engineering capabilities but also reinforces its position on the global stage in the field of dredging technology.
