First Lightning to Create Five Plastics Exhibitions

On the morning of November 29th, five major plastics industry exhibitions, spanning the chemical and light industry sectors, were held together for the first time at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. The event was attended by Li Yongwu, President of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, Yang Zipeng, Vice Chairman of the China National Light Industry Council, and other officials from Shanghai, who officially opened the exhibition and cut the ribbon. The joint exhibition featured several key events, including the 10th Asia Pacific International Plastics and Rubber Industry Exhibition, the 5th China International Engineering Plastics Industry Exhibition, the 3rd China International Fluorosilicone Industry Exhibition, the 2007 China International New Flame Retardant and Flame Retardant Material Industry Exhibition, and the 2007 China PVC Industry Exhibition. On the opening day, tens of thousands of visitors flooded the venue, with an exhibition area covering 50,000 square meters and over 700 exhibitors from Germany, France, South Korea, the United States, Japan, Italy, as well as Taiwan and Hong Kong. China is now the second-largest producer of plastics and plastic products globally, serving as a crucial hub for plastics manufacturing and processing. The rapid growth of industries such as automotive, electronics, construction, home appliances, food, and pharmaceuticals has created a massive market for plastics both domestically and internationally. In 2006, China produced 28 million tons of plastic products, and it is projected to reach 45 million tons by 2010. As a sector with a highly integrated industrial chain, the plastics industry has traditionally been divided between the chemical and light industries. Before this joint exhibition, these events were held separately, leading to inefficiencies. Companies had to participate in multiple shows, while organizers faced high costs and exhibitors spent more money. Worse still, the fragmented nature of the exhibitions led to duplicated information and missed opportunities. Industry professionals from both the chemical and light industries have long felt that the decentralized format could not meet the growing needs of the sector. By organizing a unified exhibition, the upstream and downstream players in the plastics industry can better connect, collaborate, and grow together. Li Yongwu, President of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, highlighted three key outcomes from the joint exhibition. First, companies along the industrial chain recognized the need to break down traditional barriers and work together for mutual development. Second, the joint exhibition model is expected to significantly boost the future growth of the chemical industry. Third, with this event as a starting point, the plastics industry aims to build strong brand presence, achieve scale, and foster effective partnerships.
