Valeo is entitled to purchase the remaining shares held by OSRAM

Osram, a subsidiary of the German Siemens Group, announced that it has reached an option contract with Valeo, a parts supplier, to allow the latter to purchase shares of Valeo Sylvania, a North American joint venture between OSRAM.

Valeo and OSRAM currently hold a 50% stake in the joint venture company Valeo Sylvania. The two parties reached an agreement a few days ago. If OSRAM or Valeo exercised the options in early 2014, Valeo will undertake to acquire Valeo Sylvania’s shares. In addition, the two parties also agreed to increase cooperation in the automotive lighting business with a global strategic supply agreement.

Valeo Sylvania is a company formed by Valeo and OSRAM North America subsidiary Osram Sylvania. Its business is mainly in the design and production of automotive lighting products. Currently, there are factories in Indiana and Queretaro, Mexico. More than 1,000 employees.

OSRAM is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of the German Siemens Group, but the latter has recently announced that it will spin off OSRAM operations in early July 2013, when Siemens’ shareholding will drop to 17%.
