Bedford Park Fire Department apparatus update

Here's what Martin Nowak shared:

Back in the past, Bedford Park had its ambulance count reduced from three to two. The former Ambulance 714 was a 2007 Ford E-450/Medtec. It was heavily affected during the 2011 flood when Bedford Park was responding into Summit, specifically under the viaduct just before 63rd Street. Both Tower 709 and the old A714 were damaged by floodwaters. While 709 was repaired, 714 was eventually disposed of. There are photos of it sitting behind Station 1, out of service. Today, that spot is now a small garage.

The current A714 is a 2003 International/Medtec, which used to be 712 before the 2007 Ford came into service. Since the last photo was taken for Chicagoareafire, there have been some updates — like a new LED light bar on A714. Additionally, Tower 709 has also received newer LED lights, which weren't featured in the previous images added to the site.

These historical details help preserve the legacy of the equipment and the people who served in Bedford Park. The changes in vehicles and technology reflect the ongoing efforts to improve emergency response and safety. Martin’s photos add a personal touch, making the history more tangible and relatable.
