Goodyear Launches AMT Tire to Keep Tire Pressure

Inflating the tire too much can cause it to tear, and insufficient pressure can also cause it to break. With this in mind, the United States's Goodyear Tire Company created a tire that can monitor pressure and automatically inflate it through a regulator. If the regulator senses a pressure drop in the tire, a valve will automatically open to allow air to enter. Accurately inflating tires can save fuel, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and increase tire life. Goodyear Tire began developing AMT, an aviation maintenance technology, in 2011 and will now begin testing truck tires in the United States and Canada within the next 18 months.
Zekoski, chief technology officer of Goodyear Tire Company, said: “This is an important milestone in the development of the commercial freight market for AMT technology. The tires equipped with AMT technology have performed well in testing. We are very happy that so many customers are eager to join us. Collaborate to test the next phase.” Earlier this month, the company will also test North American long-distance car tires to save fuel. The Automotive Technology and Energy Department has also invested US$1.5 million to help Goodyear Tire Research develop, develop and test commercial vehicle tires for the AMT system.
