Priority use of natural gas by intercity passenger and cargo carriers will be written into the policy

“The draft “Natural Gas Utilization Policy” revised by the National Energy Administration is being submitted to various ministries and commissions for comments, the first of which is the policy of 'Priority use of natural gas for intercity passenger and cargo transport vehicles'. It is expected that the intercity passenger and cargo vehicles and new buses will be introduced in the future. LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is widely used.” At the “2012 China Natural Gas Auto Forum” held on October 31, Yao Mingde, former president of the China Road Transport Association, disclosed the above information.

According to him, the expression “Priority in using natural gas for intercity passenger and freight transport vehicles” was not available in the past. In the past, only taxis and buses were encouraged to use natural gas. This means that the country's policy of promoting natural gas vehicles will only strengthen and will not weaken.

The national policy of promoting natural gas vehicles will only strengthen and will not weaken
Over the past decade or so, China has promoted CNG (compressed natural gas). With the development of LNG technology, the proportion of LNG in the current urban bus fleet is also rapidly increasing. Intercity passenger and freight transport vehicles have become the largest potential market for LNG.

“The Ministry of Transport has confirmed that Liaoning, Ningxia, Jiangsu, Shandong, Guangdong Automotive Group, and Shanxi Automobile Group will carry out pilots for the promotion of natural gas vehicles for intercity passenger and freight transport vehicles to focus on the use of LNG vehicles.” Yao Ming De said.

He also disclosed that many documents currently formulated by the government are encouraging the promotion and application of natural gas vehicles, such as the "Guiding Opinions for the Construction of a Low-Carrier Transportation System," and the "12th Five-Year Plan" for Highway Water Transportation and Energy Conservation. : Including "promoting the use of natural gas vehicles" in the "Energy Conservation and New Energy Vehicle Demonstration Promotion Project"; "Encouraging road transport companies to use natural gas, hybrid power, and other types of fuel-based operating vehicles in areas where conditions permit, and encourage the construction of natural gas along the main highways. Gas stations; gradually increase the proportion of natural gas vehicles in city buses and taxis."

“In addition, the Ministry of Finance has also confirmed incentives and financial support for the promotion and application of natural gas vehicles and ships. It is expected that the promotion and application of natural gas vehicles will present the situation in which relevant departments strengthen cooperation and make concerted efforts to further increase support for promotion and application.” Yao Mingde said .

He predicted that during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, China will add 3,000 new gas stations and the total number of filling stations will reach about 5,000, which may form the world's largest natural gas vehicle refuelling network. Among them, in addition to the continued use of CNG by taxis and some buses, LNG will be widely used for intercity passenger and cargo vehicles and new buses, and the proportion of the latter will increase substantially.

Brenda Smith, a member of the Asia Pacific Gas Vehicle Association, also said yesterday at the forum that 25% of the world's energy consumption is used for transportation, and the space for fuel substitution is huge. At present, oil reserves are declining, and natural gas reserves are rising. The greatest potential for replacing petroleum fuels in the future is in LNG and CNG.

At present, China has more than 14 million road transport vehicles. In the future, if LNG is used in large quantities for fuel, the LNG automobile market has the potential for explosive growth. This will drive LNG engines, LNG cylinders, and LNG vehicles that are compatible with natural gas vehicles. The rapid development of equipment such as gas station equipment and LNG small liquefaction plants will also benefit the listed companies concerned.
