Lincolnwood has new Pierce tower ladder
The new Pierce tower ladder for Tower 15 in Lincolnwood is currently being prepared for service, with an anticipated activation date set for April 1. As previously noted in earlier updates, the Lincolnwood Fire Department is facing significant apparatus overcrowding. With three ambulances on duty, one has been forced to remain outside the station, while Engine 15R is temporarily stored at the public works facility. The new Tower 15 and the existing Truck 15 are now occupying the main apparatus bays, creating a tight situation for storage and operations.
The fate of the 1989 Pierce Arrow 105' rear-mount tower ladder remains uncertain, as no official announcement has been made regarding its future use or replacement. Meanwhile, the department continues to manage its fleet efficiently, ensuring that all units are ready for emergency response.
On Saturday, Larry Shapiro visited the station and captured several photos of the new Tower 15. One image shows the 2011 Pierce Arrow XT 100' tower ladder, equipped with a 2,000-GPM pump, a 300-gallon water tank, and an unknown capacity foam system. This unit carries Pierce job number 23700. Another photo highlights the older Truck 15, which is believed to have operated its final fire on February 14th during a 2-11 alarm incident in Lincolnwood. A third image from that same day shows the truck responding to a fire on St. Louis Avenue.
These updates reflect the ongoing evolution of the Lincolnwood Fire Department’s equipment and the challenges they face in maintaining a modern, functional fleet. As the new Tower 15 nears deployment, the community will be watching closely to see how this upgrade impacts their emergency response capabilities.
