The new Pierce tower ladder for Tower 15 in Lincolnwood is being prepared for service, with an expected activation date set for April 1. As previously noted in earlier updates, the Lincolnwood Fire Department is currently facing space constraints due to an overabundance of apparatus on site. One of the three ambulances has been moved outdoors, while Engine 15R is temporarily stored at the public works facility. Meanwhile, the new Tower 15 and the existing Truck 15 are taking up valuable space in the apparatus bays. The future of the 1989 Pierce Arrow 105' rear mount remains uncertain. Larry Shapiro visited Lincolnwood on Saturday and captured several photos of the new tower ladder, offering a glimpse of its arrival at the station. Lincolnwood Tower 15 is a 2011 Pierce Arrow XT 100' tower ladder equipped with a 2,000-GPM pump and a 300-gallon water tank. It also includes a foam tank, though the exact capacity is unknown. This unit carries Pierce job# 23700. Larry Shapiro photo Truck 15 presumably had its final call on February 14, responding to a 2-11 alarm in Lincolnwood. The unit was last seen in action during a fire on St. Louis Street back in 2011. Lincolnwood Truck 15 was deployed on February 14, 2011, at a 2-11 Alarm fire on St. Louis. Larry Shapiro photo With the new Tower 15 coming online, it’s clear that the department is working through a period of transition. While the old Truck 15 may be heading toward retirement, the new unit brings modern equipment and capabilities to the station. Residents and local firefighters are likely keeping a close eye on the changes as the department continues to adapt to its growing needs.
