Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke pouring from every part of the house. Stephen Wilcox photo Stephen Wilcox has shared a powerful account and images of another significant fire that took place in western Dupage County (MABAS Division 12) last month. Here's his detailed report: Wheaton Fire: 419 N. Ellis on 6/17/11 at 0447 hours. The building, built around 1900, was a balloon frame structure with lath and plaster walls and knob-and-tube wiring. When crews arrived, the weather was warm and humid. The fire had spread across all floors and into the attic. Neighbors reported they believed someone might still be inside. The extra alarm response included three key components. Multiple handlines and six ground ladders were deployed. Notably, the family had just returned from the Far East.  A Wheaton firefighter vents windows on the side of the house while units make entry.
