This is from Eric Haak: On the evening of Tuesday, July 22nd, just before 6:30 PM, the chief of Chicago’s 22nd Battalion arrived at the scene of a working fire in a 1.5-story frame home that was occupied. The fire had started in the rear portion of the attic and quickly spread throughout the upper level. With a three-story apartment building made of wood frame porches adjacent to the structure (Sector D) and a heat index near 100°F, the 22nd Battalion quickly called for a Still & Box Alarm. Flames were visible through the roof and out of the dormer on Sector B, but within minutes, the fire began to subside and was brought under control. The ladder truck seen in the photos is Engine 27. This marked the second time in the last three evenings that Engines 75 and 62 responded to a working fire in their district. Firefighters worked tirelessly under extreme conditions, showing great dedication to protecting lives and property.
