Introducing Autodesk Structural Bridge Design 2014

New Software Aims to Help Address the Global Challenge of Aging Bridges

At Autodesk University today, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design 2014 was introduced as part of a broader suite of software updates designed to enhance BIM workflows across the entire lifecycle of buildings and infrastructure.

This new release comes shortly after the launch of Autodesk Vehicle Tracking 2014 last month, and it's aimed at tackling one of the most pressing global issues: the urgent need to repair or replace aging bridges. With many bridges around the world reaching or exceeding their intended lifespan, the demand for efficient and accurate design tools has never been greater.

According to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, nearly half of U.S. bridges will be over 50 years old within the next 15 years—far beyond the original design life. This growing challenge calls for innovative solutions that can streamline the design process, reduce costs, and improve safety. Technology like Autodesk Structural Bridge Design 2014 is playing a key role in meeting this need.

It’s not just an issue in the U.S. Many countries are facing similar challenges with aging infrastructure. To support bridge engineers worldwide, Autodesk has expanded its transportation solutions with the launch of this powerful new tool.

Eurocode Grillage 3d Elements
Autodesk Structural Bridge Design 2014 allows users to perform loading, analysis, and code checking in one environment. Here, Eurocode Grillage 3D elements are demonstrated.

Based on technology from Bestech Systems Limited, a UK-based engineering firm, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design 2014 offers engineers more flexibility and efficiency in designing small- to medium-span bridges. The software integrates loading, analysis, and code checking into a single platform, while also enabling the generation of detailed hand calculation reports directly from the results.

This example shows code checking using the AASHTO PS Beam Tendon Definition feature.

Key features include:

Speed up the design process and accelerate project delivery

  • Design bridges faster with intuitive tools that help define components quickly and integrate them into analytical models
  • Automate section property calculations for all materials and shapes, and support staged construction when needed
  • Generate optimized traffic loading automatically within a fully integrated environment
  • Refine designs efficiently through automated updates in a 'define-analyze-code check' loop

Improve accuracy and reliability with detailed structural analysis

  • Visualize data and results side by side at every stage of analysis
  • Review pass/fail criteria for beams based on graphical representations of load effects
  • Access detailed hand-calculation-style reports with full formulas and code references
  • Use embedded graphics to clarify reports and aid in the review process

Ensure consistency across the project lifecycle

  • Design according to international standards such as Eurocodes, AASHTO LRFD, BS 5400, DMRB, and Australian and New Zealand codes
  • Work within a unified system that eliminates the need for data conversion, saving time and reducing errors
  • Produce reports with minimal editing by generating calculations directly from the software

PU Resin For Dry-Process Surface Layer

PU resin, also known as polyurethane resin, is widely used in the production of synthetic leather. Synthetic leather, also referred to as faux leather or artificial leather, is a man-made fabric that imitates the appearance and feel of genuine leather. PU resin is a key component in the manufacturing process of synthetic leather, as it provides the material with its durability, flexibility, and water resistance.

The process of producing synthetic leather involves coating a fabric substrate, such as polyester or nylon, with a layer of PU resin. This resin is typically applied in liquid form and then undergoes a curing process to solidify and bond with the fabric. The resulting material has a leather-like texture and appearance.

PU resin offers several advantages for synthetic leather production. It has excellent abrasion resistance, making the synthetic leather more durable and long-lasting. It also provides flexibility, allowing the material to be easily shaped and molded into different forms. Additionally, PU resin offers good water resistance, preventing the synthetic leather from absorbing moisture and becoming damaged.

Moreover, PU resin can be customized to achieve different finishes and textures, such as smooth, grainy, or embossed patterns, depending on the desired aesthetic. It can also be colored in various shades to mimic different types of leather. This versatility makes PU resin a popular choice for synthetic leather manufacturers.

Overall, PU resin plays a crucial role in the production of synthetic leather, providing the material with its desirable qualities of durability, flexibility, and water resistance.
