HSMWorks 2015: Delivering World-class CAM to the SolidWorks Community
Autodesk has officially launched HSMWorks 2015, a powerful CAM solution seamlessly integrated with SolidWorks® software. This latest release marks the third major update since Autodesk acquired HSMWorks in October 2012, and it comes after twelve major updates that introduced hundreds of new features and improvements. Designed to streamline the transition from design to manufacturing, HSMWorks 2015 enables users to create machined parts directly from their models and assemblies, all within a unified workflow.
"Customers have consistently praised HSMWorks for its seamless integration, user-friendly interface, and strong performance," said Robert “Buzz†Kross, Senior Vice President at Autodesk. "This release reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering value, no matter which CAD system you use. We've incorporated customer feedback to make this version even more powerful and efficient."
HSMWorks 2015 includes significant enhancements, particularly in Adaptive Clearing, a high-efficiency roughing technology that reduces machining cycle times by maintaining consistent tool engagement. The updated Adaptive Roughing feature now supports tapering on helical ramps, improved stay-down linking, and optimized z-level transitions—contributing to faster and more efficient machining. Additionally, stock simulation has been enhanced for better performance in 3D mode, which is especially beneficial for users in the mold and die industry or those working with complex 3D models.
Alongside HSMWorks 2015, Autodesk also released HSMXpress 2015, a free version tailored for 2-1/2 Axis milling projects. It offers the same 2D milling and drilling capabilities as HSMWorks, along with solid part simulation and a post-processing system, making it an excellent option for students, educators, and small-scale manufacturers.
The software is now compatible with the latest Intel Xeon processors and high-end workstations like the HP Z840, which can be configured with up to 36 processor cores. This ensures faster toolpath calculations and post-processing, helping engineers adapt to last-minute changes and deliver CNC programs more quickly to the shop floor.
“HSMWorks has always been driven by our users,†said Anthony Graves, CAM Product Manager at Autodesk. “We focus on creating tools that help everyone—from beginners to experts—achieve professional results.â€
Steve Pearson, president and head engineer at Wills Wing, shared his confidence: “As a long-time HSMWorks and SolidWorks user, I was concerned when Autodesk acquired the software. But with HSMWorks 2015, I’m more convinced than ever that Autodesk is committed to both the product and the community.â€
HSMWorks 2015 is now available in English, German, and Japanese through a global network of authorized resellers. More languages will be added in future updates. A free trial is available at [www.hsmworks.com](http://www.hsmworks.com), and students and educators can access a free version at [students.autodesk.com](http://students.autodesk.com).
