The blaze occurred at 400 East Randolph Street, a building located near Maggie Daley Park. The fire started sometime after 12:30 a.m. and was confined to a single unit on the 32nd floor. Although it appears to be electrical in nature, the exact cause remains under investigation. During the response, five firefighters found themselves temporarily stuck in an elevator but were not injured. A 60-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man, both residents of the 32nd floor, are currently in the hospital in serious condition. Another individual was also taken to the hospital, though their condition is reported as non-life-threatening. Most of the injured suffered from smoke inhalation, which is a common injury in such incidents. A resident’s pet cat died in the fire.
