Code 4 fire in Wilmette, 5-28-15

I just got this update from Larry Shapiro regarding the fire incident in Wilmette: So apparently, it was Friday afternoon (May 28, 2015) when the Wilmette Fire Department received a call about smoke in a second-floor apartment on 5th Street. When the crews arrived, they discovered a small fire in the basement that had already started spreading up through the vertical chase to the fourth floor. The situation quickly escalated, prompting the department to upgrade the alarm to a Code 4 for an active fire. This brought additional resources from neighboring towns like Skokie, Winnetka, Glenview, Glencoe, Northbrook, and Evanston to help contain the blaze. To get control of the fire, they had to open up walls on every level, which I imagine was quite a challenge. I've attached some photos taken by Larry Shapiro that give you a good idea of how things unfolded. You can see the E-ONE Cyclone II e-Max fire engines and even a tower ladder in action. There's also a panoramic view of the fire scene and some shots of the courtyard where the building is located. One interesting thing is that there’s another photo featuring a Northbrook FD lieutenant, along with a Pierce Enforcer fire engine in the mix. It really shows the collaborative effort between different departments to manage such incidents. For more visuals, check out shapirophotography.net. There are plenty more images there if you're interested in getting a full picture of what happened that day.
