13-Alarm Fire in Burlington, WI 1-30-13 (pt2)
I just got off the phone with a friend who witnessed the massive 13-alarm fire that broke out overnight in Burlington, Wisconsin. He managed to capture some incredible footage and photos, which really capture the scale and intensity of the situation.
Here’s a quick summary of what he shared with me. The fire was centered near Echo Lake Foods, and it quickly spread due to strong winds and the dry conditions. Firefighters from multiple departments had their hands full trying to contain it. One of the most challenging aspects was getting enough water on site since there wasn’t an immediate water source nearby. You’ll see several photos of fire trucks drafting water from portable tanks set up strategically around the area.
One particularly striking image shows a Pierce fire engine drawing water directly from Echo Lake—a testament to how resourceful the crews had to be. Another shot highlights a Wauconda engine working in-line, supplying water to one of the master streams. There are also great angles of different apparatuses operating in various sectors of the fireground, including a couple of tower ladders working elevated master streams to reach higher levels of the burning structure.
