Autodesk contributes $1 million to expand Group Effort Initiative educational programming

Las Vegas, NV – Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a global leader in design and make software, has made a significant contribution of $1 million to the Group Effort Initiative (GEI), an organization dedicated to creating pathways for underrepresented communities to gain real-world experience and build long-term careers in the entertainment industry. In the wake of the historic WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, many below-the-line workers and young professionals faced major challenges as the industry came to a standstill. In response, GEI, with the support of Autodesk, expanded its educational and training programs threefold, ensuring participants could stay engaged and continue developing their skills during the pause in production. Over the next two years, these initiatives will be rolled out across 18 cities where GEI operates, offering more opportunities than ever before. “Since founding GEI in 2020 with my wife Blake, our goal has been to create a steady pipeline for underrepresented talent into the entertainment industry,” said GEI co-founder Ryan Reynolds. “With Autodesk’s support, we’re not only helping people gain new skills but also giving them the tools to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing field. Their software lets people ‘make anything’—and today, we’re incredibly grateful that they’re helping so many make something of their futures.” A special photo accompanying this announcement shows the impact of the partnership, highlighting how Autodesk’s investment is expanding GEI’s educational reach. On Tuesday, Ryan Reynolds will join Autodesk Chief Operating Officer Steve Blum in a fireside chat at Autodesk University, the company’s annual design and make conference. The conversation will focus on navigating change in fast-evolving industries and how individuals can become agents of positive transformation. Autodesk’s support has allowed GEI to offer a wide range of training programs, from four-day Production Assistant bootcamps to virtual and in-person workshops on cinematography, documentary filmmaking, climate storytelling, and post-production careers. Participants also benefit from mock interviews, resume reviews, and networking events, all aimed at building professional confidence and connections. “Autodesk is committed to empowering the next generation of creators with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed,” said Steve Blum, Autodesk’s COO. “Through our partnership with GEI, we’re proud to help aspiring entertainment professionals access more training and networking opportunities, keeping them on track for long-term success.” GEI has also introduced one-on-one office hours and a mentorship program that has connected over 167 participants with industry professionals. These personalized resources have proven invaluable in helping individuals navigate career development and find meaningful opportunities. “During the strikes, we listened to our participants and used this time to ensure there were no gaps in their career growth,” said GEI Executive Director Sumi Parekh. “Thanks to Autodesk’s generous support, we’re not only strengthening existing programs but also expanding into new cities, opening up more pathways for underrepresented talent.” Job placement remains a core mission of GEI, which helps bridge the opportunity gap by connecting participants with internships and entry-level roles. During the strike, GEI secured 70 paid internships in Los Angeles through public-private partnerships, supported by local government agencies. Autodesk and GEI are both committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the entertainment industry. Their collaboration is a powerful example of how technology and community efforts can come together to create real change. For more information about Autodesk, visit autodesk.com or follow @autodesk.
