On Monday, August 9th, **CFD FF/PM Chris Wheatley of Truck Co. 2** passed away after sustaining injuries when he fell from a ladder near the roofline while responding to a fire at 615 W. Randolph. His funeral took place on August 13, 2010, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, following a Mass at St. John Fisher Church on South Washtaw.
A series of commemorative markings now honor his memory, with one of them displayed on Truck 2. The event was marked by heartfelt tributes and a solemn procession, reflecting the deep respect and admiration the Chicago Fire Department had for him.
The casket was carefully loaded onto Engine 5 for the journey to the church, where department officials and fellow firefighters gathered to pay their respects. As the casket was carried out of the funeral home, Chicago Fire Department commissioners and chiefs stood in salute, honoring the life of a dedicated firefighter.
Along the route, members of the AFFI Honor Guard, representing many suburban Chicago fire departments, lined the streets, showing their support and solidarity. The ceremony was a powerful reminder of the bond that exists within the firefighting community.
