On Monday, August 9th, **Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Wheatley of Truck Company 2** passed away after sustaining serious injuries when he fell from a ladder near the roof while responding to a fire at 615 W. Randolph. His funeral took place on August 13, 2010, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, following a Mass at St. John Fisher Church on South Washtenaw.
A series of commemorative plaques now mark Truck 2 in his honor. One such plaque is shown here, reflecting the deep respect and memory the department holds for its fallen member.
The casket was transported to the church on Engine 5, with firefighters from across the city and surrounding areas gathering to pay their respects. As the casket was carried out of the funeral home, Chicago Fire Department commissioners and chiefs stood in salute, honoring Chris's service and sacrifice.
A large crowd lined the streets near St. John Fisher Church, including members of the AFFI Honor Guard representing many suburban Chicago fire departments. The solemnity of the event was clear, as every detail reflected the deep bond between the men and women of the fire service.
Chris’s casket was then carried into the church, where friends, family, and colleagues gathered to say goodbye. The entire community came together to remember a brave firefighter who gave his life in the line of duty.

This tribute serves as a reminder of the courage and dedication of those who protect our communities, even at great personal risk.
