Last week, Evanston was hit by a 2-11 alarm fire on Oak Street. The blaze broke out in a historic Victorian mansion that was in the middle of a renovation project, with plans to transform it into a clock and stained glass museum. The incident drew significant attention from local media, with detailed coverage available on TribLocal, the Tribune, and a short video posted online.

Additional photos from the scene include a shot of Evanston Engine 23, the department’s newest unit, pumping water from an alley behind the building. Another image captures Truck 23, also a Pierce TDA, laddering an adjacent building that had to be evacuated due to heavy smoke. A distant view shows Engine 24 at work, while another photo highlights the thick smoke that affected visibility and posed challenges for nearby structures.
Evanston Engine 22 was stationed at the end of the block with a hydrant, and its 2003 Pierce Dash unit, equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump, played a key role in the operation. Glenview Engine 6 and Morton Grove Squad 4 were among the responding units, both arriving as part of the backup. DesPlaines Tower 81 and Winnetka Engine 28 were also seen in staging areas, with the latter recently returning from maintenance that included a new door seal, updated graphics, and a fresh black paint job on the roof.
