Still & Box Alarm in Chicago, 5-15-16

This is something I just heard from Drew Gresik: Around 11:30 PM on May 15th, 2016, the Chicago Fire Department's Englewood Fire Alarm Office got several calls about a fire near 57th and Peoria. The Englewood FAO quickly responded, treating it as an active fire situation. Engine 50 was the first to arrive on the scene and reported a two-story, ordinary structure that was vacant and measured 25 by 50 feet. There was significant fire damage visible on both floors and particularly in the rear of the building. Then, Squad 5 contacted Battalion 6, who was still on their way, to inform them that the intense fire had spread to the Side D exposure—a building with a similar construction. Battalion 6 immediately requested a Still & Box response as companies began to pull back to adopt a defensive strategy. Four lines were deployed for an external attack. Truck 51 was relocated from Side A to allow Tower 39 to take the front and use its aerial master stream. Units present at the scene included Engine 50, Engine 84, Engine 116, Engine 54, Truck 51, Truck 18, Ladder 39, Battalion 6, Squad 5, Rescue Team 2-7-4, Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), Battalion 19, Truck 20, Battalion 5, Battalion 15, Additional Units 2-2-1, Ambulance 1, Ambulance 49, and additional support teams 4-5-5 and 4-5-8.
